UMass Celebrates Sustainability with Annual Earth Day Extravaganza

UMass Permaculture organized its first Earth Day Extravaganza on the Goodell Lawn, featuring a wide range of vendors, activities, and entertainment.

The event showcased the campus's commitment to sustainability and climate activism, highlighting the UMass community's efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

The extravaganza featured a Thrift Village with dozens of student-run thrift stores, offering second-hand clothing and accessories.

Visitors could take photos under Stockbridge Floral Design's flower photobooth with handmade bouquets.

Students could also purchase vegetable seedlings from the Student Farm and buy handmade plushies, jewelry, and upcycled trinkets.

The event was a huge success, with 180 vendors participating and being the biggest one yet, with a wide range of activities and entertainment options.

The size of the event was not the only difference this year – the timing was also significant, as the Trump administration continues to slash funding for environmental protections.

Eco-renewers played a key role at the event, offering alternatives to mass-produced material goods, such as locally raised meats and sustainable fashion.

Sustainability-centered student clubs, such as the Sunrise Movement and Forestry Club, participated in the extravaganza, promoting their causes and recruiting new members.

The event was filled with whimsical touches, from bike-powered blenders to inflatables, making it a fun and engaging celebration of sustainability.
