Case Study: Accra, Ghana

Accra, the capital city of Ghana, is one of the 14 cities participating in the Breathe Cities program. The city’s air quality is severely impacted by traffic congestion and vehicle emissions, with particulate matter levels exceeding 10 times the recommended limit. To address this issue, the city implemented a congestion pricing scheme, which charges drivers a fee to enter certain areas of the city during peak hours.
