The Need for Enhanced Government Action on Climate Change

The effects of climate change are already being felt across the globe, and it is imperative that governments at all levels take immediate and collective action to mitigate its impact. Climate change enthusiasts and experts have been urging governments to do more in checking actions that worsen climate change, citing the devastating consequences that could unfold in the next 10 to 15 years if left unchecked.

Some of the key concerns raised by the experts include:

  • Devastating consequences for human health and livelihoods
  • Severe weather events and increased frequency of natural disasters
  • Loss of biodiversity and ecosystem disruption
  • Increased food and water insecurity
  • Negative impacts on mental health and well-being

The panelists at the TV talk show emphasized that addressing climate change requires a collective effort from governments, stakeholders, and individuals. Mr. Julius Mbidomti, a panelist from the North East Multi-sectoral Crisis Recovery Project, emphasized the need for humanity to take climate change seriously due to the potential devastation it could cause in the next 10 to 15 years.

“We must all work to conserve our planet,” he said. “Climate change is not just a problem for governments; it’s a problem that requires the attention and action of every individual, every organization, and every community.”

Mr. Yohana Moses, the principal special adviser on NGOs to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, highlighted the increasing impacts of climate change on Adamawa State, citing examples such as excessive heat leading to fatalities and sandstorms.
