Nigeria to Host Major Climate Action and Just Energy Transition Workshop

Nigeria will host a major climate action and just energy transition workshop in Abuja this week, bringing together key stakeholders to address pressing climate issues.

The workshop aims to develop a coordinated national framework to drive low-emission growth, mobilise climate finance, and ensure a just, inclusive energy transition.

The event's core objective is to explore how Nigeria can develop its own Country Platform for Climate Action (CPCA), a framework that will enable the country to take a leadership role in Africa's climate future.

The CPCA will be guided by the principles of equity, inclusivity, and economic sustainability, providing a structured approach to implementing a just energy transition.

The workshop will draw lessons from successful Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs) implemented in countries such as South Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Senegal.

These countries have demonstrated the potential for a just energy transition to drive economic growth, improve energy access, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The event is expected to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and the development of a coordinated national framework to support Nigeria's climate action goals.

The workshop is being organised by a consortium of prominent institutions, including government leaders, private sector stakeholders, civil society organisations, and international partners.

Nigeria's leadership role in Africa's climate future will be defined during the workshop, with a focus on developing a national strategy that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability.

The event is seen as a crucial step towards achieving Nigeria's goal of becoming a low-carbon economy by 2030, as set out in the country's National Climate Change Policy.
